What is Celebrex?

Generic Celebrex is available in 50 mg, 100 mg, 200 mg, and 400 mg.

How does Celebrex work?

Celebrex works by blocking the COX-2 enzyme responsible for producing and mediating the production of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are chemicals in the body that send a substance (prostaglandins into the stomach) up into the. When COX-2 is blocked, the amount of prostaglandins that are produced increases, and by this action, the stomach lining (the lining of the stomach) becomes more sensitive to acid. Prostaglandins are produced as pro-inflammatory cytokines that cause the body to produce more prostaglandins. These cytokines are released from the stomach lining and become activated when a person is sexually stimulated.

The level of prostaglandins in the stomach is maintained by the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines (which cause the stomach to swell and produce more stomach acid). Celebrex inhibits the enzyme responsible for pro-inflammatory cytokines production. The most important result of this mechanism of action is an increased ability of the stomach lining to heal. As a result, the amount of stomach acid in the blood decreases, and the amount of stomach pain decreases.
